Corrie Ten Boom (1) - Risk their necks

For those waiting, i apologize for the late writing
In fact it's not as what you wished or what i intended.
Nevertheless, I'm glad for the slight modification
As i recall about Mdm Corrie, she's escalated so high to the state of 'celebrity' that she'd assistant who dismissed fans and photographers. She pressed on saying: "It's not me, it's not about me, but it's about Jesus." Which Matt Redman only many years later pen it The Heart of Worship. So now i shall start with the first attempt

"Greet Prisca and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus, who risked their necks for my life, to whom not only I give thanks but all the churches of the Gentiles give thanks as well." ~ Romans 16 : 3-4 ~ (ESV).

In NIV it's written as "risked their lives", but i think they substituted the literal meaning of risking the neck.. I prefer the literal translation by ESV, because it gives better and clearer impact. Simply, it means both Prisca and Aquilla has risked their lives ... but literally till the point of losing their lives (either by beheaded or hanged). The risk they took, up to the point / at the verge of their heads being separated from their bodies (neck). No small wonder that Paul thanked them...and in fact all the churches of the Gentiles. :D

And i remembered a similar incident in story re-told by Mdm Corrie. For the Nazis gave food rations to the people, and each person only able to collect his food based on the so called "book ration". They kept changing the book so that people won't be able to fake the book. And so without the book, many Jews were in the verge of dying. What can one do? What must one do? So Corrie asked help from someone she knew....to steal the book. But it's not so simple, because certainly it's of some security. So here the plan, Corrie told the man that there will be some guyz come to attack him...and rob him including the book rations..... The man asked, how many books do you need? As Corrie thot of the sacrifice this man going to pay (being bashed up)....she can't ask for only few....so she spoke boldly....100 books!!

The next day, he gave her 100 books. And when she saw him ... certainly those guyz didn't show him any pities. But Corrie took heart... certainly the Nazis wouldn't believe if it didn't look like a real attack....and for 100 books....the sacrifice couldn't be cheap.
As i read those records... What came to my mind?? Sacrifice. What makes those people willing to sacrifice, even their necks? Certainly they saw something far more valuable than their own neck. How abt us?

Corrie Ten Boom (2) - Undermined Struggles

One of the things which i'm very thankful for Corrie's biography is the honesty put in it. Every struggles that is recorded and spoken there speak a volume of her humilities and honesty. I love a human saint

Talking about honesty. I think these days we're so used to with "white lies". We've find out almost all the arguments and statements to validate our answers that we don't need to struggle abt the matter.

It's not so for the Ten Boom family, or the Deutch during those days. White lie is a lie. There's no argument. Hence the struggle was very real for them (the Ten Boom family in the story). When the Nazis ordered everyone with radio to surrender theirs ... not to surrender is a form of lie ... what more of hiding Jews. So the struggles and final decision for the Ten Booms (Corrie, Betsie, and Father) to hide the Jews in their house was really remarkable. They struggled to transgress the very thing which they hold dearly and strongly; honesty.

If the answer for such situation ever come to us, thank be to them who struggled till the corners and ends and came up with conviction which brighten our understanding. At the same time, it pointed out the terribleness of evil. How evil was those times, when doing evil was better than being evil.

The biography was also honest in telling the details how Corrie was so angry and upset with her sister who can't speak lie and as result endangered a life of a Jews woman. Also how wicked the soldier who picked on children who doesnt yet know how to tell lies. And in their innocent way...they may speak wherebout of their older brothers who're forced to join armies. What an evil days. Yet...God amazingly works and shows his might even during those days ... where He amazingly overturn situations that even the seemingly worst situation declares of His glory. The next one ... no small miracles

A good boss

Very seldom one could find a good boss
Just to remember that once i had a very good boss
And i'm very thankful for such.
Hmm...yah i don't know yet for what reason ...
But certainly i'm grateful for such boss ...
Who guides me
Who taught me what to do ... hehe for sometimes i'm at lost
Who gave me responsibilities that's just nice
Who explained things whenever i requested
Who knew what's the best action to take even in difficult times
Seems that i am so small and weak

Who understood me as person ... my values and dislikes
It makes me wonder sometimes ...
How could she be so good?
Is it by training or a gift?
For i hope that i could somehow come close to that level.

Squirrel and barbwires

Was walking down to bus stop again this morning. A thought downed upon me and i was praying about it, "When is it Lord?" I think it's a common question we all ask.

Then i noticed a squirrel ... an ordinary one like what i normally see when i walk in the morning. Except this squirrel was walking on a barbwire. I stopped there, watching.. I've never seen this before. In my mind squirrel is such cute and delicate animal that run away when seeing a person is approaching. Also it walks on smooth surfaces ... but on barbwire? hehe...interesting.

And actually i was much impressed by the way how it managed to cross the barbwire. There're 3 barbwires in parallel...and the thorns was in abt 12 cm distances apart.
So it crawled slowly until it reach the next thorn - then rotated its body to avoid the thorns - moved to the lower barbwire where 12 cm of smooth surface,
crawled a little - rotated its body - then move to the next barbwire of 12 cm smooth surface

I imagined if it got bigger, it won't be able to do it. Just because it's body fit the 12 cm that it could do it. And yah.. God made it and in its time to do what it only can do...

There i knew God has answered my prayer. I need not worry about the time. It'll be beautiful in its time

love never ends

When the road is difficult
And all strengths are gone
When the journey is painful
And the friends become foes
I'm reminded that love bears

When the end is uncertain
And the burden increases
When the body gets weaker
And the mind gets darker
I'm reminded that love believes

When i face my own mistakes
And all the failures i had made
When i'm trembled from the place i fell
And grow weaker inside
I'm reminded that love hopes

When all things seem wrong
And i can't make sense the world around
When i feel all alone
And i simply want to quit it all
I'm reminded that love perseveres

When all are gone
And i'm left alone
one thing still have
love never ends

Corrie Ten Boom (3) - No small miracles

Now about the things which excited me as i read through the biography For Corrie put those accounts of clear and real experiences where God's hands were there. Things which could be taken for granted, however we could also attribute it to God's kindness. Few the things which i could still remember :

The hiding of 11 Jews in her room when the Nazi came
The book was really good in building up the story - from the Nazi's first attack, followed by other attacks, and finally the fall of Dutch and when Corrie's town was invaded too. Then how someone came and saw her house, to see it's a perfect place to build a hideout. Followed by the streams of Jews actually took refuge there ... and how they built a warning system throughout entire house to warn anyone if any Nazi would come and do a search. How they practice day and night to eliminate any trace if 11 people are living there!.

When the day came, Corrie was unprepared. She's sick. And against all odds, God hide those Jews, that the Nazi couldn't find. The term Corrie's used "Angel's crib" for the Jew's hideout in her room was the title her first book: My Hiding Place. It's a very touching story. To hide for ones life. And indeed God hide those Jews there. And the real hiding place was to be found somewhere else. I don't want to spoil the story here hehe...

To forgive
It's a very real struggle for Corrie to forgive the man who sold her family to the Nazi. For later in prison did she found out of a Dutch man who betrayed the underground and leak the information about her as one the ringleader, so that her entire family was put in prison. As result, her father died there, also her sister, Betsie. The struggle was very real. And at first it appearently impossible for Corrie to forgive. It's very touching and interesting to read the details of her struggles between. For she knew that Jesus wants her to forgive, but it's really impossible for such pain the person caused.
At the end, she wrote a letter that i found very amazing.

Preservation of lives in the concentration camp
There're so many accounts of God's work to preserve her life as well as Betsie's life throughout their imprisonments. How when asked what she wants, she mentioned few items, including a bible which the nurse was astonished, but at the end...all those items were passed to her in secret.
How when they're to surrender all their belongings and Betsie depended on the medicines to survive...at the last minutes, God opened the way and they could smuggle the medicine. What a miracle, to pass through those searching soldiers.
And how when they're put in so called the worst dormitory, Betsie reminded Corrie to praise God in every circumtances. With grumblings Corrie followed, and to find out later that because the dormitory was so awful that actually there's no soldiers there...where they could read their Bible loud out. What's God's providence.
